Oklahoma Attorney General Asks Court to Overturn Richard Glossip’s Conviction

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 01:08:56 GMT

Citing the duty of a prosecutor to seek justice, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond asked the state’s highest criminal court to vacate Richard Glossip’s conviction on Thursday and send his case back to district court. It is a stunning turn of events in a case that the state has aggressively defended for years. Glossip, now 60, has come perilously close to execution multiple times.“The state has carefully considered the voluminous record in the case, the constitutional principles at stake, and the interests of justice,” Drummond wrote in a filing with the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. “While the state has previously opposed relief for Glossip, it has changed its position based on a careful review of the new information that has come to light.”The move by Drummond signals the possible end of a decadeslong saga that began on January 7, 1997, with the discovery of Barry Van Treese’s body inside Room 102 of a seedy motel on the outskirts of Oklahoma City.Glossip, the live-i...

Encuesta CNN: un tercio de los estadounidenses dice que Biden merece la reelección en 2024

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 01:08:56 GMT

Pelicans: Zion Williamson continuing rehab, conditioning

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 01:08:56 GMT

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Pelicans have ruled out Zion Williamson for Friday night’s game against the New York Knicks but have stopped short of providing a timeline for how much longer the All-Star forward will be sidelined by his right hamstring injury.“After further evaluation, it has been determined that Zion Williamson will continue his rehabilitation and conditioning regimen,” Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said in a statement Thursday evening. “We will continue to monitor his progression and updates will be provided as warranted.”The announcement comes a day after the Pelicans clinched a spot in the NBA postseason with a victory over Memphis that guaranteed the team a top-nine finish in the Western Conference — good enough for at least a play-in spot. New Orleans (41-39) still could finish in the top six and go straight to the playoffs if it wins its last two games and receives help in the form of losses by Golden State (42-38...

BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — A judge in the King Soopers mass shooting will let prosecutors make their case that the suspected shooter — who's currently in a state mental health hospital — is "feigning" his condition.Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa is charged with 115 counts in the March 2021 shooting that killed 10 people, including a responding police officer. Lakewood gun violence at record high Prosecutors raised concerns that Alissa's "lack of participation in the restoration process may be voluntary" and requested to show evidence of whether that's the case, according to a ruling issued Wednesday by District Judge Ingrid S. Bakke.Bakke found a "good faith" basis to order a restoration hearing in the case, where prosecutors will give evidence on whether Alissa is competent. It could happen as soon as April 28.Prosecutors: Evidence will show suspect is competentAlissa's competency has been at stake since September 2021, when defense attorneys first raised the issue.
