Ask Amy: How can I forgive myself for this long-ago mistake?

Dear Amy: Twenty years ago, I had an affair that ended my marriage (after 15 years together).I am extremely remorseful and even though I have apologized to my ex (and he has forgiven me), I can’t seem to forgive myself. The phrase “once a cheater always a cheater” just plays on an endless loop in my head.I hate myself for betraying a man who was nothing but kind toward me. I honestly feel like if I forgive myself, it’s like saying that what I did was OK.I also feel like a huge hypocrite when conversations with friends turn to infidelity. My closest friends know what I did, but not everyone, so I feel like if I chime in on that topic about how wrong I think it is (because now I know better!) I am just lying to everyone.I feel obligated to disclose what a horrible person I was and not play some charade as if I would never do something like that.If I somehow do manage to forgive myself, isn’t this just me saying to everyone that what I did was OK, when it’s not? Will I ever get past this...Harriette Cole: How can I get my co-workers to let me go out with them?

SAN JOSE – The head coach of the San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate said an exit meeting with forward Martin Kaut, who said he felt pressured to fight by one of the minor league teams’ coaches, actually ended on a positive note with no indication that the 2018 first-round draft pick was unhappy.John McCarthy, a former Sharks forward who is entering his second season as the San Jose Barracuda’s coach, said Kaut didn’t raise any issues with him during his brief time with the team or after the season ended in April.“That’s the strange part is the end of the year meeting was very positive,” McCarthy said Wednesday, “and there was zero contention or complaints on anything along those lines. So, it’s unfortunate.”Kaut, 23, told the Czech website iDNES.cz in a story published in July that an unnamed Barracuda coach would choose an opponent, usually a fellow Czech-born player, before each game for him to fight. When Kaut refused, he said the coach responded by saying tha...Companies Already Ban the Use of Their Drugs for Lethal Injection. Now They’re Blocking IV Equipment.

Medical equipment manufacturers are refusing to sell their products for use in lethal injection, The Intercept has learned. The stance could further hinder states’ ability to carry out death sentences at a time when similar restrictions have limited access to drugs. The four companies that have raised objections are Baxter International Inc., B. Braun Medical Inc., Fresenius Kabi, and Johnson & Johnson. In addition to manufacturing drugs, they make IV catheters, syringes, medical tubing, and IV bags, products states rely on to administer lethal injection. In statements to The Intercept, the companies said that the use of their equipment in executions contradicts their values.“Johnson & Johnson develops medical innovations to save and enhance lives,” Joshina Kapoor, a spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson, wrote in an email. “We do not condone the use of our products for lethal injections for capital punishment.”Fresenius Kabi, a German company that specializes in IV devices,...South Africa’s Malcolm Marx out of Rugby World Cup with long-term knee injury

TOULON, South Africa (AP) — South Africa hooker Malcolm Marx was ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup on Thursday with what the team described as a long-term knee injury.Marx sustained the injury in a training session on Wednesday, the Springboks said. It’s a big blow to the defending champions’ chances of retaining their title in France, with Marx one of the form players in the team.South Africa has just one other specialist hooker in the squad in Bongi Mbonambi, who was selected to captain a second-string Springboks team against Romania on Sunday. However, South Africa also selected 36-year-old utility forward Deon Fourie in its squad, who can play hooker as well as his most recent position of flanker.Coach Jacques Nienaber said Thursday that loose forward Marco van Staden also had previous experience as a hooker and might be called on to cover that position.“We have enough cover at hooker with Bongi (Mbonambi) and Deon (Fourie) in the squad, while Marco (va...Break out the dirndl and lederhosen! Miami-Dade Police officers and fire rescue crews responded to a neighborhood in Northwest Miami-Dade after a person was found dead near a cement truck lot following reports of a possible electrocution. The incident occurred on Thursday morning at 830 NW 73rd St. after a loud boom was reported. Although it is not clear what occurred, initial calls were received about an electrocution in the area. As a result of this incident, the power went out temporarily in the vicinity. Florida Light & Power officials were also on the scene as they investigated the outage that has reportedly affected 1,496 customers. Live video footage showed the body, covered by a yellow tarp, near the lot and water leaking from a nearby building. Police officers on the scene said there appeared to be an electrical issue in the neighborhood. Commuters in the area are urged to avoid Northwest 73rd Street near Northwest Seventh Avenue as authorities have blocked off the street to investigate the situation. Offi...Latest news
