(KRON) -- Fourteen protestors were arrested at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield after a large crowd blocked the base's entrances Thursday morning. Police said about 150 protestors arrived at the military base's gates. Videos posted on social media showed crowds waiving Palestinian flags and holding up banners reading, "No U.S. weapons for genocide." The activist group CODEPINK Women For Peace wrote, "Today we joined several other groups in the SF Bay Area in shutting down the largest transport Air Force base in the country. We will not let arms get shipped out of our backyards to support the genocide in Gaza."Members of the Solano County Sheriff's Office, Suisun Police Department, and Vacaville Police Department were called in as backup."Members of the Police Department and representatives from Travis Air Force Base met with protest organizers to facilitate the exercise of their constitutional rights, while also ensuring the men and women serving our nation could get onto the base...I Calculated How Much of My Money the U.S. Sent to Kill Palestinians. You Can Too.

Nearly 90 percent of the territory’s residents have been displaced, and it has been called “one of this century’s most destructive wars.”So how much have I chipped in to create this hell on earth? The best answer I’ve come up with is $150.There are two ways of looking at this number. One is that this is a relatively small amount of money. Another is that the U.S. is so astonishingly rich and powerful that we as a country can mete out overwhelming b...Reds sign reliever Buck Farmer to $2.25 million, 1-year contract

There was no festive cheer for north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham on Thursday.A 2-0 home loss to West Ham stopped Arsenal moving back to the top of the Premier League.A 4-2 defeat at Brighton prevented Tottenham moving back into the top four.Arsenal’s setback was more surprising, given it was the team’s first loss at home in any competition in seven months. And it’s just one win in its last four league games for the Gunners, at a time when Manchester City — the defending champion — has been looking vulnerable with just one win in six before a come-from-behind victory at Everton on Wednesday. In truth, Arsenal — despite having 30 shots — never looked like getting the better of West Ham once the visitors went ahead through a goal that was less conclusive than the final score.Cameras did not show definitively whether the ball was out of play when Jarrod Bowen turned it back into the penalty area for Tomas Soucek to force home a finish in the 13th minute. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Washington offensive tackle Troy Fautanu has heard all the snide remarks about West Coast football and how those pass-heavy offenses in the Pac-12 are not tough enough to win a national championship.“We’re kind of used to slander,” Fautanu said Thursday. The Huskies’ biggest dawgs allowed only 11 sacks this season, paving the way for Michael Penix Jr. and No. 2 Washington to reach the College Football Playoff and earning the Joe Moore Award, given to the best offensive line in the country. If there are still questions about the Huskies’ line, Fautanu has a suggestion: “Turn on the tape.”In the Sugar Bowl semifinal on Monday, Fatanu and company will get a chance to prove they can out-tough No. 3 Texas and a defensive line anchored by maybe the best set of tackles in the country in All-American T’Vondre Sweat and second-team All-American Byron Murphy II.“It’s a great group of guys and we’ll face ’em Monday,” said the 362-pound Sweat, who seemed to t...Bucs aim for 5th straight win, 3rd consecutive NFC South title against division rival Saints

SEATTLE (AP) — On the list of the NFL’s winningest coaches, Pete Carroll and Mike Tomlin are linked by proximity and success.Carroll ranks 13th all-time with 180 wins between the regular season and the playoffs. Right behind him is Tomlin, with 179 victories.Despite being among the league’s longest-tenured coaches, the two have met only four times previously heading into Sunday’s matchup between the Steelers and the Seahawks.Even though their teams have rarely crossed paths, there’s a healthy respect between the two leaders.“He’s a really good man,” Carroll said. “They’ve had the good fortune of having him for years; 16 years and never had a losing season. That’s a pretty good mark, that’s hard to get that done. I have the ultimate respect for him.”This fifth matchup between the coaches is arguably the most important to date because of what is at stake. Both teams have playoff hopes, although the path for Seattle is clearer. The Seahawks (8-7) need wins over the Steelers ...Biden administration hands Louisiana new power to expand carbon capture projects
Published Mon, 11 Nov 2024 07:21:59 GMT
The Biden administration is handing Louisiana regulators new power to attract and approve carbon capture projects at a time when the state’s influential energy sector wants to make the Gulf Coast a hub for the rapidly expanding industry.Louisiana will be able to issue permits for wells that store carbon dioxide, a critical component of carbon capture and removal technology. In all but two other states, the Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for permitting. Proponents of the change say it will speed up approvals of new projects that are critical for reducing climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions.Environmental groups had opposed the move, doubting that a state home to a concentrated stretch of oil, gas and petrochemical plants commonly called “cancer alley” is capable of proper industry oversight and protecting residents. The EPA said the Louisiana agreement includes safeguards to protect poorer, often majority-Black communities that live near those facilities — and tha...Latest news
