Andrew Phillips, the museum curator, said it was first built by the Presbyterian Church and the Wilsons resided in it from 1855 to 1858. In the 1920s and 30s, he said, it became a museum. The archaeological project started in 2018 after a fungal disease called the Boxwood blight decimated the boxwood shrubs in the garden. Phillips said the historical site wanted to explore if there was any archaeology work worth doing in the area. The work started with shovel tests — students dug dinner plate size holes into ...

Fighting breaks out inside Russia as Prigozhin’s rebellion menaces Moscow

Russian forces on Saturday appeared to bombard the southern city of Voronezh in an attempt to extinguish a rebellion by mercenary troops loyal to the embittered warlord Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is now posing one of the gravest threats to President Vladimir Putin’s nearly 25-year rule. Putin had earlier raised the specter of civil war after Prigozhin, furious over the Kremlin’s bungled invasion of Ukraine, seized key parts of southern Russia — most crucially the major strategic city of Rostov-on-Don — and threatened to march on Moscow. Images of shelling in Voronezh, some 500 kilometers south of Moscow, could not immediately be verified, but the governor...
